3 Google Analytics Tips for Content Creators

If creating content is part of your daily routine, the process has likely become as natural as breathing.

You get your cup of coffee, sit down and start plugging away writing posts that would give Shakespeare a run for his money. OK, so that might be a little over the top, but wouldn’t it be nice to have the process flow that smoothly?

It may get difficult at times to find a source of inspiration or even get a good read on what your audience is enjoying. Sure, seeing the count on your social media buttons go up on certain posts can be a fairly useful indicator of performance. But, as we know, social is volatile and finding a coherent pattern for posts achieving success may not be that easy to figure out.

Want to Succeed in Social? Forget Followers. You Need Groupies.

I had a roommate in college who loved the rock band Pearl Jam.

Back in the day, a lot of people loved Pearl Jam. But not like this. His was a special kind of love.

He had every album. I’m not talking about studio LPs. That’s the stuff of pretenders—guys like me. I’m talking about bootlegs and B-sides, grainy live recordings from stadium shows and album release parties. Rare musical finds. He drove for hours, sometimes days, to catch a show. He graduated and spent a month following the band across Europe. He joined the fan club (they call it the “Ten” Club after PJ’s hit 1991 album). In two decades of fandom, the man has seen more than 200 live shows. Half his wardrobe consists of authentic Pearl Jam-licensed concert attire.

He’s a fanatic. Truly obsessed.

And here’s the scariest—or, if you’re in the content business, perhaps the best—part: He’s not alone.

As content marketers and editors, we go numb in the lips talking to clients about how to connect with target audiences via social media. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, wants their brand to ooze that endearing irresistible stickiness that keeps customers flocking back like concert groupies to a mid-90s grunge show. Summer Hits: What B2B Content Marketers Can Learn from The Season’s Biggest Blockbusters

Trips to the beach, sunshine filled walks, and backyard barbecues…just some of the reminders that summer is here. But for those of us who hate the heat, or just need a break between pool sessions, there is one other harbinger of the season: the big budget summer blockbuster.

As the days grow longer and the temperatures rise, studios are releasing their major moneymakers that thrill and awe audiences. Often, summer blockbusters are accompanied by a major production price tag, forcing studios to rely on some tried-and-true practices to make sure they get a return on their investment. Now what does all this have to do with content?

A new study by the Chief Marketing Officer Council and NetLine reveals that businesses are spending more than $16 billion annually on creating original B2B content. The study also shows that relevant content is influencing B2B consumer decisions like never before, with 87 percent of respondents saying that B2B online content has a major to moderate impact on customer buying decisions

Why Content Marketing Is Good—For Me and You and Everybody Else

Recently I was teasing a colleague who is making a bundle teaching a workshop on “storytelling” to a group of communication professionals, who presumably already know how to tell stories. Jocularly, he replied that the real sharpers these days are the self-styled “social media experts.” “Notice,” he added, “how I tiptoe around your newfound enthusiasm […]
