Google+ Fails and Brand Inspired Tattoos: Week in Content for July 7, 2012

by Jackie Roy on July 7, 2012

Another week has passed, and if you passed out from the crazy amount of heat this week, here’s what you missed.

Google+ fails to win over our hearts

Many users have ended their relationship with Google+. Why? Well as this article puts it, Google+ Fails Because It Makes You Feel Like A Loser. While Google+ is different from Facebook in that users can share updates with friends in specific circles not just their whole friend base, this feature may actually leave people feeling out of the loop. Secondly, all of us undoubtedly want to protect our privacy, but we’ve become accustomed to oversharing and getting the “gossip” from Facebook.

People seemed to agree: Google+ just hasn’t found a place in our overly social lives.

Getting inked with brand logos

Would you be willing to get a tattoo of a company’s logo? Hey it’s not as crazy as it sounds, well maybe it is, but people actually do this stuff! Tattoo marketing is hitting the streets and people are lining up to get inked with their favorite brand’s logos. This podcast shares how tattoos are replacing t-shirts or hats as the new company giveaway.

And…apparently this guy would get Captn Crunch?

Snack foods parody

I bet almost of all these snacks will bring back a ting of nostalgia—however, the names may not look that familiar. But they might make you laugh. (Spoiler alert: Cheetos are coined “Spray-Painted Styrofoam Peanuts” yum).

State of social media

Social media is evolving (and expanding) at an extremely quick pace—and there’s no sign of it slowing down. But you knew that already, right? Well for some of the stats you may not be too sure of, the Social Media Marketing Manager of Samsung lays them out in this slideshare presentation.

Siri’s predecessor is 1,000 years old

Speech and voice recognition have come a long way in the last 1,000 years or so—and this infograpghic provides a nifty timeline dating back to 1936. Of course, the technology has evolved and improved during that time period and now accuracy levels have reached 95% and transcription speeds are over 160 words per minute. Anyway, it seems people like to test Siri’s abilities.

Profile of a tablet user

If you’re 25-34, like to watch videos and check weather on the go you just may be a tablet user, at least that’s what the latest research says. Tablet adoption in the U.S. is at 31% so far in 2012 which means 74 million people own one of those bad boys. This piece offers some more tablet stats.
