Does race play a factor in level of tech geekdom? Pick up a copy of the new Philadephia-based “Tek Lado,” which caters to “tech-savvy Latinos”.
The 32-page publication isn’t yet nationwide, but hopes are there, according to the EIC Liz Spikol. The need for the magazine, according to the press release, is the Latinos wide use of social networking and mobile technology versus Caucasians.
A glance at the mag (which is free distributed at schools and various spots around Philly) shows articles on Chatroulette, a profile on a local comic store staffer and a family’s obsession with iPhones—all in the premiere issue. The magazine’s site stresses, however that the publication (launched in September) isn’t just for Hispanics—it’s meant “to broaden the reach of the cultural conversation of technology.”
Considering it’s been nominated by local business Philadelphia’s Philebrity for Publication of the Year, seems the chatter won’t be stopping anytime soon.
